A number of scientists from the United States, using stem cell engineering technology, successfully gave birth to a mouse of two male parent. Experiments conducted in an attempt to preserve endangered species, and even create offspring of same-sex couples.
According to a study published Wednesday, December 8, 2010 and then in the journal Biology of Reproduction, scientists in Texas are able to manipulate the cells of the fetal male rat (xy) to generate a cell line induced pluripotent stem (iPS).
IPS cells are mature cells that have undergone genetic changes. Some cells that grow will lose chromosome y, and turned into the XO cells.
Tues XO is then injected into mouse embryos from donor females. Subsequently transferred or deposited into the uterus so that a replacement mice gave birth to a baby with a chromosome X from the original male rats.
Cells from baby mice that grew were then mated with cells from other male rats. Their descendants, both male and female, turned out to indicate a genetic contribution from two male rats.
The study, led by Richard R. Berhringer was conducted at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The researchers say that with different techniques, there is a possibility to produce sperm from female donor mice that can produce offspring from two parent female.
This experiment does raise the possibility to produce offspring of same-sex couples. However, the researchers said the results of the experiment is still far to be applied in humans

Human Genes and Coral Reef Same
A group of scientists surprised to learn that the coral reefs, one of the oldest life forms on Earth, has the same genes with humans. The similarity of genes making up the body reaches 70 percent.
According to a study recently published in the journal Nature, the research team had to sort the genome of an organism that has 650 million-year-old for five years.
"Coral reefs have a low level of similarity with the animal," said Kenneth S. Kosik, researchers from the University of California-Santa Barbara, as quoted by TG Daily, December 10, 2010.
"For example, they do not have a lot of neurons. However, the genome of coral reefs to prove the existence of many genes in neurons, "he said.
Other researchers from Australia, who have completed a genetic observations on coral reefs in the Great Barrier Reef also find something similar.
"DNA is the same between humans and coral reefs cover a number of DNA are commonly associated with disease and cancer," said Bernard Degnan, researchers from the University of Queensland. "This opens opportunities for a breakthrough in cell research and treat cancer," he said.

Create Shortcut To Hibernate
